Employee Spotlight – Melissa Fenchel
Q. How long have you been with AArete and how did you come into your role here?
After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta, I found myself working for a group purchasing organization in NYC. My work revolved around negotiating contracts with medical supply vendors, using Excel to analyze vendor data and helping to uncover thousands of dollars in potential revenue. I was looking for a change and came across AArete’s website while researching companies. The culture and nature of work looked like a perfect fit and I was so excited when a recruiter responded to my job application. I’ve been with AArete for one year now and have attributed a combination of my previous analytical skills and healthcare experience to my project work at AArete.
Q. What does your typical day look like?
Every day is different! Weekly, my project team meets to set goals and strategize. Monthly, our Managing Director in New York holds a presentation to highlight all of our client accomplishments and exciting announcements. In the last year I have had the opportunity to work on five different projects. AArete offers a lot of client exposure which has been a valuable learning opportunity and I am gaining experience in new and different industries.
Q. What has been your favorite project so far?
I had the opportunity to work on a project that, at a high level, created a dashboard for a healthcare payer client to optimize and improve their contracting. We were able to take what we created for that initial client and implement a similar dashboard for a healthcare provider. It was exciting to be on the ground floor of creating and providing a meaningful solution that ultimately lead to significant savings for our clients.
Q. What is the New York office experience like?
AArete’s NYC office is surprisingly casual and maintains a collaborative and unique culture. I love that there is always someone new there since AArete employees from across the country are stopping by while visiting their clients in New York. The office also continues to grow! In the last year we have upgraded to a larger space. We organize our own happy hours, service events and team building activities.
Q. Are you involved with any of AArete’s groups?
Yes! I help run the New York extension of “AAreaching Out,” an employee-run community service group. We organize events for local and national charities. This year, we have had the privilege to partner with Little Essentials, Project Sunshine, and Bike MS for the National MS Society.
Q. What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
I work with some incredible teams and I love contributing to our combined success. Everyone at AArete is focused on providing excellent service to our clients and are heavily invested.
